What it does
Thomson Reuters announced general availability of the next generation of CoCounsel Legal on August 20, 2026, describing it as 'a fully agentic AI experience' that can 'plan, reason, and execute across complex legal workflows', built on Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK and grounded in Westlaw, Practical Law and the customer's documents. Capabilities named by the vendor include Deep Research, litigation document analysis and a Drafting Agent in CoCounsel for Word that drafts, edits and reviews agreements using natural-language instructions and an organisation's playbooks. Per the release, the new experience is available in the United States first, with Canada, the UK and Australia expected later in 2026. Thomson Reuters Corporation is a Canadian corporation and datelines its releases from Toronto. On the FedRAMP Marketplace, two Thomson Reuters packages are 'Agency In Process' (not authorized), and Westlaw is TX-RAMP certified (Level 2); neither is claimed here for CoCounsel itself.
